Day 3 in NYC: Grand Goodbyes

Our last morning came way too fast. We grabbed bagels (again — I mean, how could we not?) before making our way to Grand Central Station. Even if you’re not catching a train, it’s worth a visit for the architecture alone — the sweeping ceiling mural is breathtaking.

We hopped on the train to the airport, suitcases a little heavier with souvenirs, and hearts completely full. Three days in NYC was just enough to get a taste, but it left us wanting more.

With a short trip, we knew we couldn’t see it all so we picked 3-4 things that mattered the most to us. Letting the kids enjoy Central Park, seeing the Statue of Liberty, exploring, and even taking the subway was all part of what we chose to put at the top of our lists.

I highly recommend if you are doing a short trip to pick out a few things to focus on and enjoy rather than trying to cram everything in.

Overall, the kids LOVED NYC and, honestly, it was easier to navigate and more fun than I was anticipating! Highly recommend a short trip with kids in town to explore NYC!

Packing Tip: Keep your travel day bag organized — snacks, water, chargers, and one small entertainment option for the kids.

Budget Notes:

  • Bagels: $3–$6 each
  • Train to airport: $10–$15 per person

Family Pro Tip: Build in extra time to walk through Grand Central — kids love watching the hustle, and you’ll love the people-watching.
