We started the day the right way: bagels. Specifically, Ess-a-Bagel. Soft, warm, perfectly chewy — the kind of breakfast that makes you rethink every bagel you’ve ever had at home.
Fueled up, we took the subway downtown to the Staten Island Ferry. It’s completely free, and it gives you a fantastic view of the Statue of Liberty without the cost or lines. The boys loved riding it there and back, leaning against the rail and taking it all in.
Right next to the ferry terminal, we discovered an amazing playground. It became the perfect stop for the kids to run wild while we snacked on fresh mango from a street vendor.
From there, we took the subway up a couple stops and visited the World Trade Center Memorial — a sobering but important moment to share history and remembrance with the kids.
In the afternoon, we headed to Bryant Park, where the Christmas market had just opened. Stalls filled with ornaments, crafts, and treats lined the park, and twinkly lights made it feel like pure magic. I will say, it can get very busy and overwhelming so take that into consideration for your kiddos. The boys begged for one more trip to Central Park, where they climbed rocks and ran until sunset.
Dinner was — you guessed it — more pizza. Because in New York, that’s never the wrong choice.
Packing Tip: Bring a lightweight layer for the ferry — it can get windy even on warm days. Or if you are like us and visiting in the fall and used to a warm climate, bring jackets!
Budget Notes:
